Makes keeping Mason Bees easy!

Part how-to video, and part documentary, this video, All about Mason Bees, presents extraordinary close-up sequences of mason bees making nests, depositing pollen in the nests, laying eggs, and constructing and sealing the chambers. You’ll even see the larvae feeding on pollen!
Experience the annual cycle of beekeeping: setting up and positioning nests in the spring, retrieving cocoons from the nest in the fall, identifying viable eggs, removing pests, over-wintering eggs, then setting up a healthy nest again in spring. Cardboard nesting tubes are attractive to mason bees and are a good way of starting with and keeping Mason Bees. Nesting tubes are ready for spring mason bees that are looking for suitable nesting material.
DIRECTIONS: Set tubes into a dark water-proof container to protect them from rain and direct sun. Fix container onto a sunny wall of a house or shed before spring blossoms are in bloom. When wild mason bees are in the vicinity they search for suitable nesting material such as cardboard nesting tubes or nesting holes created from stackable Quicklock corn trays also available from Beediverse products.
Cardboard is 100% recyclable paper. Tubes are a one-time item. Once a mason bee uses the tube as a nest, dirt and parasites decreases the livability of the nesting tube. Unoccupied tubes are re-useable.
DIRECTIONS FOR HARVESTING COCOONS: In the fall (Oct-Dec) simply unfurl tubes, gather, wash and store hibernating mason bee cocoons. Use the Beediverse ‘Bee Cocoon Shelter’ to safely emerge these bees.

This item help you keep an eye on the temperature if storing cocoons in the fridge. 2-4C or 34-38F
Easy-Check Thermometers (one).
This easy-to-read thermometer can be used any place where your cocoons are stored. If they are stored in a fridge, place this thermometer on a shelf in the middle of the fridge. Move thermometer and check different areas of the fridge to make sure temperatures are right for storing cocoons.Includes:
- one Fridge thermometer
This thermometer makes it easy to check the temperature inside a fridge or in an outside location.
- When overwintering cocoons inside a fridge, hang thermometer on a shelf in the middle of the fridge for easy viewing. Because temperatures can be different in the upper and lower section of the fridge, move this thermometer to different areas in the fridge as temperatures can vary between shelves. During winter months keep temperature above freezing – between 35-42F or 2-6C. After January keep temperature below 36F or 4C and above freezing (34F or 4C) <
Before use, check new thermometer temperature readings against the temperature readings of a known thermometer.

1 roll of tape- Great for taping Quicklock trays and or cardboard tubes.
Black electrician’s tape is a wonderful product for holding nests together right through the seasons. This tape is easy to undo in the fall at harvest time. This very versatile tape works great for:

Protect your developing mason bees from those marauding parasitic wasps during the summer months.
This finely woven mesh bag protect Mason Bee cocoons from parasitic wasps and other insects while cocoons are in storage from summer to winter. DIRECTIONSIncludes: **After all mason bees have died and are no longer seen flying in and out of the nest, protect your developing bees by inserting the entire home or nests into mesh bags.
- 1 No-Wasp Net Bags (60 cm X 60 cm , 24″ x 24″ ) Material: Nylon Mesh
No-Wasp Net Bags are generously sized with an extra-wide, draw-string opening. The bags have room for stacked nesting trays and Mason Bee Houses with the cocoons inside. Place trays and houses in the bag, draw it closed, and the cocoons are safe from pests. Staying pest-free means viable cocoons come spring.
No-Wasp Bags are an important part of keeping a healthy Mason Bee population from year to year. Bags are washable and fold flat for storage.
Protection from pests is two-fold.
(1) Parasitic wasps and other pests will be attracted to the nest but will not be able to enter the bag and nest to parasitize developing bee larvae.
(2) Parasitic wasps that are previously in the nest will develop and come out to find additional bee cocoons, but first wasps have to leave their nesting chamber and mate. While they are trapped inside the netting, mist-spray them with a mild soapy solution. This will kill these wasps that are flying around inside the net bag.
This is the handiest tool for handling mason bee cocoons or live insects!
Cocoons are fragile and these forceps have a “feather touch”. It is easy to pick up cocoons amongst debris for easier cleaning. In the spring if the early bees emerge, it is a simple task to gently pick them up and place them back where they belong. Forceps can be repeatedly bent back into the width you need to gently pick up insects. Includes 2 forceps

This sieve is an excellent and easy method for removing mites and debris from mason bee cocoons. Swirl cocoons through cold running water in a bowl and under running water. Pollen feeding mites are abraded off cocoons by the metal screen of the sieve. Cocoons are waterproof and are not damaged by this washing method. Dry cocoons on a paper towel for about 30 mins and store over the winter.
