is a mason bees that is active towards the end of spring overlapping with Osmia lignaria for about 2 weeks.
The Californica bee is blue black in colour and uses the same nesting holes as the early spring mason bee.
Their cocoons are covered in red frass (fecal pellets).
The timing of Osmia californica activity is perfect for pollinating blueberry and raspberry flowers.
