Children can watch bee larvae busy seating pollen, develop through the summer and fall, spin their cocoons, and hibernate during the winter. Look inside the viewing box during the spring and summer, by briefly lifting up the lid. Bees will not be disturbed when opening the nest for short periods of time. The Beediverse Viewing Box is durable, attractive, easy to clean and maintain, and made from sustainable resources to last many summers. Set viewing box out on a shelf, where mason bees are likely to find the nest.

When paired, the trays from tunnels where Mason Bees nest and lay their eggs. In the fall, pop the trays apart, and gently slide out the cocoons with our Bee Scoop.

Our Starter Cottage is "move-in ready" for Mason Bees. Mount on the sunny side of a house or garden shed and bees will soon settle in. Modest in size and price, it’s a perfect first mason bee house, great in the classroom and an ideal gift for gardeners.

The front panel removes for easy cleaning and maintenance. When in place, the panel protects bees from predating woodpeckers, mice and parasitic wasps.

The Starter Cottage comes with 20, one-time-use nesting straws where the bees nest and lay eggs. In the fall, unroll the nesting tubes to harvest and clean the cocoons. The cocoons can over winter in the cottage, then emerge and move into fresh nesting straws in the spring.

Starter Cottages are used to collect mason bees from other locations. Set cottages out – when the bees move into the cottage, return the cottage with the new resident bees to you garden. It’s a fun and gratifying project … and you save the cost of buying cocoons.
